Pintapuudistus

Pintapuudistus, also known as surface purification or shallow soil remediation, refers to a set of techniques used to remove or neutralize contaminants from the uppermost layers of soil. This method is typically employed when pollution is concentrated near the ground surface and has not significantly penetrated deeper into the earth. Pintapuudistus is often favored for its cost-effectiveness and lower environmental impact compared to methods that require extensive excavation or deep soil treatment.

Common pintapuudistus techniques include in-situ methods such as bioremediation, where naturally occurring microorganisms are encouraged to break down contaminants, or soil vapor extraction, which draws volatile pollutants from the soil pores into a treatment system. Ex-situ methods might involve excavation of the contaminated surface soil, followed by treatment such as washing, thermal desorption, or stabilization before returning it to the site or disposing of it elsewhere. The choice of technique depends on the type and concentration of contaminants, the soil characteristics, and the intended future use of the land.
