Pihustid

Pihustid is an Estonian term for devices and systems that apply liquids as a fine spray. The concept covers consumer spray bottles as well as professional equipment used in agriculture, horticulture, industry, and cleaning. A spray system typically works by breaking a liquid into droplets and expelling them through a nozzle, often under some form of pressure.

Common types include manual trigger sprayers (handheld spray bottles), pump sprayers, and backpack or knapsack sprayers for larger volumes. There are also pressurized and air-assisted sprayers used in farming and industry. Nozzle design determines droplet size and spray pattern, with patterns such as cone, fan, mist, and jet. Materials are usually plastics such as polyethylene or polypropylene; high-durability models may use metal components.

Applications span household cleaning, gardening and horticulture, crop protection with pesticides and liquid fertilizers, disinfection, and industrial coating or painting. In agriculture, sprayers enable targeted, efficient application of agrochemicals while aiming to minimize waste and drift.

Safety and handling are essential: follow product labels, calibrate sprayers for correct mixtures, wear appropriate protective equipment, and avoid spraying in windy conditions to reduce drift. Regular cleaning prevents clogging and cross-contamination, and proper storage reduces chemical hazards.
