Phylogenie
Phylogenie is the study of the evolutionary relationships among organisms or groups of organisms, inferred from data that reflect common ancestry. The results are typically summarized as a phylogenetic tree, in which branching patterns represent lineages and nodes correspond to hypothetical common ancestors. A central concept is monophyly: a clade includes an ancestor and all its descendants. Phylogenies illuminate the branching order of lineages and help organize biodiversity into groups sharing a common heritage.
