Photographys

Photographys is a nonstandard plural form of photography. In proper usage, the term is photography, the practice of producing still or moving images by recording light or other radiant energy, typically with a camera.

The field encompasses both the scientific aspects of light, optics, and sensor technology, and the artistic practice of composition, narrative, and expression.

The history of photography began with the camera obscura concept and early chemical processes developed in the 19th century by inventors such as Niépce, Daguerre, and Fox Talbot. Film photography dominated for much of the 20th century, followed by the digital revolution which made image capture and editing ubiquitous. Today, most images are captured digitally and stored as RAW or JPEG files.

Key techniques include exposure control through aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, along with focus, white balance, composition, and lighting. Post-processing in software is common for correction and creative adjustment, and the use of metadata aids organization and archival management.

Equipment ranges from cameras (DSLRs and mirrorless systems) with interchangeable lenses to compact cameras, tripods, and lighting gear. Sensor size, dynamic range, and color science influence image quality and rendering.

Photography serves journalism, documentation, art, science, and personal communication. It raises ethical and legal considerations such as consent, representation, copyright, and model releases, and emphasizes proper archival storage and metadata management for long-term accessibility.
