Phosphine has several applications, though its toxicity limits its widespread use. It is employed as a fumigant in agriculture to control pests in stored grains and commodities. In semiconductor manufacturing, phosphine is used as a dopant to alter the electrical properties of silicon. It also finds use in the synthesis of various organophosphorus compounds.
