PhasenRegionen, also known as phase regions, are distinct areas within a material where a specific phase or set of phases is stable. In thermodynamics and materials science, a phase is a physically distinct and homogeneous part of a system that has uniform chemical composition and physical properties. For example, in a simple iron-carbon alloy, different phases like ferrite, austenite, and cementite can exist depending on temperature and carbon concentration.
These regions are typically represented graphically on phase diagrams, such as binary or ternary phase diagrams.
When a material is cooled or heated, or its composition is changed, it may transition from one
