Pharmacopeïsche

Pharmacopeïsche refers to anything that relates to a pharmacopoeia, a reference work that provides officially recognized quality standards for medicines, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), excipients and dosage forms. A pharmacopeïsche standard typically consists of monographs describing the identity, strength, purity, and dosage form; general chapters on analytical methods, stability, and storage; and instructions for testing, sampling, and documentation.

Pharmacopoeias are legally recognized authorities in many jurisdictions. They guide manufacturers in quality control and are used by regulators in product approval and lot release. Major pharmacopoeias include the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.), and the British and Japanese pharmacopoeias (BP, JP), with national variants in many countries. The term is used in Dutch to describe standards, monographs, or procedures that originate in or conform to a pharmacopoeia; these guide testing, qualification, and compliance for medicines.

Pharmacopoeias are periodically revised to reflect new science, updated methods, and newly approved substances.
