Phantograms

Phantograms are a type of visual illusion that appear as faint, ghostly images or patterns that seem to float in the air. They are often described as being translucent and sometimes moving or changing shape. These phenomena have been reported by various individuals across different cultures and time periods, although scientific explanations for their occurrence are limited.

One of the most well-known theories suggests that phantograms are a result of the brain's visual processing system. When the eyes are exposed to certain stimuli, such as bright lights or rapid movements, the brain may misinterpret these inputs as actual images. This theory is supported by the fact that phantograms are often reported after exposure to such stimuli.

Another theory proposes that phantograms could be caused by the interaction of light with the atmosphere. Under certain conditions, such as when looking through a window or at a bright light source, the brain might misinterpret atmospheric disturbances as visual images.
