Phakding

Phakding is a village in the Solukhumbu District of eastern Nepal. It lies on the banks of the Dudh Koshi river at an elevation of about 2,610 meters (8,562 feet). It is situated along the main trekking route from Lukla to Everest Base Camp, near the gateway town of Lukla.

Administratively, Phakding is part of Province No. 1 in the Khumbu region. The village sits along the popular Everest trail that passes through several small settlements on the approach to Namche Bazaar.

The local economy centers on trekking tourism, with a network of teahouses and small lodges that accommodate trekkers and climbers. Households also practice subsistence farming, growing crops such as potatoes, barley and maize and keeping yaks or sheep in nearby pastures.

Phakding lies in a mountainous valley with spruce and pine forests. The community reflects Sherpa cultural influences common in the Khumbu, and Buddhist traditions are evident in local monasteries and daily life. The village was among those affected by the 2015 earthquake and subsequent reconstruction, which contributed to changes in infrastructure and tourism facilities in the area.
