Perusväreihin

Perusväreihin, often translated as primary colors, are fundamental colors that cannot be created by mixing other colors. The specific set of primary colors depends on the color model being used. In additive color mixing, which applies to light, the primary colors are red, green, and blue (RGB). When these colors of light are mixed, they produce other colors, including white when all three are combined in equal intensity. This model is used in displays like televisions and computer monitors.

In subtractive color mixing, which applies to pigments and inks, the traditional primary colors are red, yellow, and blue (RYB). This model is often taught in art education. When these pigments are mixed, they absorb certain wavelengths of light, and the remaining wavelengths are reflected, creating the perceived color. Mixing all three traditional primaries in theory produces black, though in practice it often results in a muddy brown. A more modern and accurate subtractive primary system for printing is cyan, magenta, and yellow (CMY), often with black (K) added to create CMYK. These primaries offer a wider range of reproducible colors than RYB.
