Perusfunktiona is a term used in some Finnish-language mathematical and computational texts to denote a basic or fundamental function that serves as a building block for constructing more complex functions within a given framework. The word combines perus- meaning basic with funktiona, a form of function. While not a universal term in all languages, it appears in discussions of function spaces, approximation theory, and numerical methods to emphasize modular design.

In a formal setting, perusfunktiona are selected to be simple, well-behaved, and capable of spanning a target space when combined under the framework’s operations, such as addition, scalar multiplication, composition, or integral transforms.
