Peristaltiky is a biological process involving rhythmic muscular contractions that move substances through tubular organs. This wave-like motion is primarily observed in the digestive system of animals, where it propels food from the esophagus to the stomach, through the intestines, and finally expels waste from the body. The contractions involve the coordinated relaxation and constriction of smooth muscle layers surrounding the organ. Specifically, a ring of muscle ahead of the bolus of material relaxes, while the muscle behind it constricts, pushing the material forward.
