Percipior

Percipior is a term used in some philosophical, linguistic, and fictional contexts, but it does not have a single, widely accepted definition in standard English. In classical Latin grammar, percipior is the first-person singular present passive indicative of the verb percipio, and translates roughly as "I am perceived." The common English noun for a perceiving agent is percipient or perceiver rather than percipior.

Origin and sense: Percipio itself means to seize through, to perceive, or to become aware. The form percipior thus marks the passive voice, referring to the subject as something that is perceived rather than the agent who perceives.

Philosophical usage: Where encountered in English, percipior is usually a stylized or hypothetical label for the perceiver in discussions of epistemology, phenomenology, or mind–body problems. It may be contrasted with the "object" of perception or with the "percept" that is perceived. However, this usage is not standard and citations are limited.

Fiction and culture: In speculative fiction, role-playing games, or linguistically playful prose, percipior can appear as a character class, a species name, or a title that foregrounds sensing or empathic faculties. Authors typically define the term within the work.
