Patologiseerimine
Patologiseerimine refers to the process of labeling behaviors, thoughts, emotions, or experiences as abnormal, diseased, or indicative of a mental disorder. This term is often used in critical social and psychological discourse to highlight how certain aspects of human experience that might be considered normal within specific cultural or social contexts can be medicalized and treated as pathological. The act of patologiseerimine can involve the application of diagnostic criteria from the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) or ICD (International Classification of Diseases) to everyday difficulties or distinct personality traits.
This process is not inherently negative, as it allows for the identification and treatment of genuine suffering
