Passbandlähetyksissä

Passbandlähetyksissä refers to transmission methods used in telecommunications and signal processing where the information signal is modulated onto a carrier wave that occupies a specific band of frequencies, known as the passband. This is in contrast to baseband transmission, where the signal is transmitted at its original frequency, typically in the lower frequency range.

In passband transmission, the original baseband signal is shifted to a higher frequency range by modulation techniques such as amplitude modulation (AM), frequency modulation (FM), or phase modulation (PM). This shifting is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it allows multiple signals to be transmitted simultaneously over the same medium without interfering with each other, a concept known as frequency-division multiplexing (FDM). Each signal is assigned its own unique carrier frequency within the passband.

Secondly, passband transmission is often necessary to efficiently radiate signals through antennas. Antennas have physical limitations related to their size, and their efficiency in radiating electromagnetic waves is directly related to the wavelength of the signal. Higher frequencies correspond to shorter wavelengths, allowing for more practical antenna sizes for many applications.

Common examples of passband transmission include radio broadcasting, television broadcasting, and cellular communication. In these systems, audio or video signals are modulated onto carrier waves that are then transmitted through the air or other media. The receiver then demodulates the signal to recover the original information. The design and regulation of these passbands are critical for effective and orderly spectrum utilization.
