ParallelFormenReliabilität, also known as parallel forms reliability or alternate forms reliability, is a method for assessing the internal consistency of a test or measure. It involves creating two or more different versions of a test that are intended to measure the same underlying construct. These versions are designed to be as equivalent as possible in terms of content, difficulty, and format, differing only in the specific wording or presentation of items.

To calculate parallel forms reliability, a sample of individuals completes both versions of the test. The scores obtained on the two forms are then correlated. A high correlation between the scores on the parallel forms indicates that the two versions are measuring the same construct consistently. This suggests that the test has good parallel forms reliability, meaning that if a different but equivalent form were used, similar results would likely be obtained.

This method is particularly useful when an instrument might be administered multiple times to the same individuals, and it is desirable to avoid practice effects or memory contamination that could arise from using the exact same test. For instance, in educational settings, teachers might use parallel forms of an exam to assess student learning without students simply recalling answers from a previous administration. A significant advantage is its ability to assess reliability without the potential issue of a test's length influencing the reliability estimate, which can be a concern with other reliability measures like split-half reliability. However, the development of truly parallel forms can be challenging and time-consuming, requiring careful item construction and validation.
