Pancrustaceans, also known as crustacean paraphyletic group, represent a major subgroup within the phylum Arthropoda. This diverse assemblage includes crustaceans and some insects, forming a clade characterized by their segmented bodies, exoskeletons made of chitin, and jointed limbs.

The group is believed to have originated in the Cambrian period around 500 million years ago. Pancrustaceans are primarily aquatic, with crustaceans such as crabs, lobsters, shrimp, and barnacles inhabiting marine and freshwater environments. However, their closest relatives include insects, which are predominantly terrestrial, illustrating the group's evolutionary transition from aquatic to terrestrial habitats.

Phylogenetically, pancrustaceans are classified within the larger clade Mandibulata, distinguished by their mandibles used for chewing. Molecular and morphological analyses suggest that the group is monophyletic, meaning it contains all the descendants of a common ancestor. Crustaceans are distinguished by features such as biramous (two-branched) appendages, a nauplius larval stage, and a ventral nerve cord.
