Pamekasan

Pamekasan is a regency located on the island of Madura in East Java, Indonesia. It is one of the four regencies on Madura, the others being Bangkalan, Sampang, and Sumenep. Pamekasan is situated in the central part of the island. The regency is bordered by the Java Sea to the north and the Madura Strait to the south.

The capital of the regency is also named Pamekasan. The primary economic activities in Pamekasan include agriculture, particularly rice cultivation, and livestock farming. Tobacco is also a significant agricultural product in the region. Like much of Madura, Pamekasan has a strong cultural identity, with the Madurese language and traditions being prominent. The area is known for its traditional crafts and cuisine.

Historically, Pamekasan has been part of various sultanates and kingdoms that ruled Madura. During the Dutch colonial era, it was one of the administrative divisions. Today, Pamekasan is governed by a regent and a regional parliament. The regency is divided into several districts, which are further subdivided into villages. Pamekasan plays a role in the broader administrative and economic landscape of East Java province.
