Palomuurilokeja

Palomuurilokeja, also known as the "Palm Wall Lizard," is a small, arboreal lizard species native to the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. It is characterized by its distinctive appearance, with a slender body, long tail, and a unique color pattern that includes a light-colored belly and a dark-colored back with a prominent, white-bordered, black "V" shape on its head. This "V" shape is believed to resemble a palm leaf, giving the lizard its common name.

Palomuurilokeja are primarily nocturnal and spend most of their time in the trees, using their long, sticky tongues to catch insects and other small prey. They are also known to be territorial and will defend their territory from other lizards and even small mammals. Despite their small size, these lizards play an important role in the ecosystem of Mauritius by controlling insect populations and serving as a food source for other animals.

The palm wall lizard is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, but its population is threatened by habitat loss and degradation due to human activities such as deforestation and urbanization. Conservation efforts are underway to protect the remaining habitats of the palm wall lizard and ensure the survival of this unique species.
