Palästinenser

Palästinenser refers to the indigenous Arab people of Palestine. Their history is deeply intertwined with the land of Palestine, a region in the Middle East with immense historical and religious significance for Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Palestinian people have a distinct cultural identity, including a unique dialect of Arabic, culinary traditions, music, and art.

The modern Palestinian national movement began to coalesce in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, largely in response to the rise of Zionism and the weakening of the Ottoman Empire. Following World War I, the area came under British mandatory rule. The partition of Mandatory Palestine by the United Nations in 1947, intended to create separate Arab and Jewish states, led to the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. This conflict resulted in the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, an event known as the Nakba (catastrophe).

The ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict continues to shape the lives of Palestinians. Many live in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, and within Israel. Significant Palestinian populations also reside in refugee camps and communities across neighboring Arab countries and in the diaspora worldwide. The pursuit of self-determination and statehood remains a central aspiration for the Palestinian people. Their struggle is characterized by a complex political, social, and humanitarian dimension, recognized by numerous international bodies.
