Pakistanis

Pakistanis are citizens of Pakistan or people of Pakistani descent. The term covers a wide range of ethnicities and cultural backgrounds united by ties to the country. The majority identify as Muslim, with significant Hindu, Christian, Sikh, and other minority communities.

The country has a multilingual society. The official languages are Urdu and English; regional languages include Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, and Balochi. Ethnic groups include Punjabis, Sindhis, Muhajirs, Pashtuns, Balochis, and others. Islam is the predominant religion, shaping many aspects of daily life, though there are minority religious communities.

Pakistanis are primarily concentrated in Pakistan, with a large diaspora abroad. Large communities have settled in the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, United States, Canada, Australia, and several European countries.

Cultural life features diverse traditions in music, literature, and cuisine; cricket is the most popular sport; Urdu language poetry, and a rich heritage of regional arts contribute to a distinctive national culture.

Pakistan was created in 1947 during the partition of British India; since then it has developed a diverse society and a constitutional federation.
