The **PERCENTRANK.array** function is an Excel feature designed to calculate the relative rank of a value within a dataset, expressed as a percentage. It is part of the Excel statistical functions and was introduced to address limitations in the older **PERCENTRANK** function, which could not handle array inputs directly.

PERCENTRANK.array takes three primary arguments: the array of values, the value for which the rank is being calculated, and an optional sign argument. The function returns a decimal between 0 and 1, representing the percentage of values in the array that are less than or equal to the specified value. For example, if the function returns 0.75, it means the value ranks in the top 25% of the dataset.

A key advantage of PERCENTRANK.array is its ability to process entire arrays without requiring intermediate steps, such as using the **AGGREGATE** function or manual sorting. This makes it more efficient for large datasets. However, it only works in array formulas, meaning it must be entered using **Ctrl+Shift+Enter** in older Excel versions or simply entered as a standard formula in newer versions (Excel 365 and Excel 2019).

The function is particularly useful in financial analysis, quality control, and any scenario where percentile-based comparisons are necessary. For instance, it can help determine how a particular data point compares to others in a distribution, such as evaluating test scores or sales performance.

While PERCENTRANK.array improves upon its predecessor, it is important to note that it excludes text and logical values (TRUE/FALSE) from calculations, treating them as empty cells. Additionally, the function ignores hidden rows and columns in the dataset.
