PDItä

PDItä is a hypothetical regional open-data initiative designed to illustrate how public-sector data portals can be organized and used. It coordinates the release of datasets from municipalities and regional agencies in the Itä region, with goals of transparency, civic engagement, and local innovation. The platform publishes data through a catalog and an API, and provides downloadable files in common formats such as CSV, JSON, and GeoJSON. Licenses favor open access, typically under Creative Commons licenses, with privacy-preserving handling for sensitive or microdata.

PDItä was proposed in 2019 and launched in 2020 as a collaboration among the Itä Regional Council, universities, and the national data authority. A governance board oversees strategy and policy, while a small technical team maintains the portal and data pipelines. Data quality is addressed through metadata standards, versioning, automated validation, and user feedback mechanisms.

The portal covers datasets such as public transport schedules, land-use plans, environmental measurements, demographic indicators, infrastructure projects, and aggregated budget figures. Access emphasizes timeliness, geographic coverage, and clear licensing, while privacy safeguards limit the sharing of non-aggregated personal data.
