Overcustomisation refers to the process of modifying a product, service, or system to such an extensive degree that it becomes unnecessarily complex, inefficient, or difficult to maintain. This often occurs when individual needs or preferences are prioritized above all else, leading to a divergence from standard or optimal configurations.

In software development, overcustomisation can manifest as excessive use of plugins, bespoke code, or complex integrations that are difficult to update or troubleshoot. This can lead to performance issues, security vulnerabilities, and increased development costs. Similarly, in product design, overcustomisation might involve adding numerous specialized features that are rarely used by the majority of users, increasing manufacturing complexity and cost without a corresponding increase in value.

The drawbacks of overcustomisation include reduced scalability, as highly customized systems may not easily adapt to changing requirements or increased user loads.
