Otophorus
Otophorus is a genus of extinct teleost fish belonging to the family Otophoridae. Fossils of Otophorus have been found in marine sedimentary rocks, primarily from the Late Cretaceous period. The most well-known species, Otophorus pulcher, is characterized by its distinctive ear-like or fin-like structures extending from the posterior part of the head or the anterior dorsal fin. These structures are thought to have played a role in sensory perception, display, or perhaps even defense.
The Otophoridae family, to which Otophorus belongs, is relatively small and poorly understood due to the limited
