Ostsillatsioone refer to repetitive variations, typically in magnitude, around a central point or equilibrium. These variations are characterized by a cyclical pattern where a system deviates from its stable state and then returns, often overshooting and oscillating back and forth before eventually settling. The simplest form of oscillation is a harmonic oscillation, often exemplified by a mass on a spring or a pendulum swinging under ideal conditions, where the restoring force is directly proportional to the displacement.

The rate at which these oscillations occur is known as the frequency, measured in Hertz (Hz), which represents cycles per second. The time taken for one complete cycle is the period. The maximum displacement from the equilibrium position is called the amplitude. Many natural phenomena exhibit oscillatory behavior, including sound waves, light waves, and the vibration of molecules. In engineering and physics, understanding and controlling oscillations are crucial for designing stable systems and avoiding resonance, a phenomenon where external forces match the natural frequency of an object, leading to potentially destructive amplitude increases.
