Osmundaceae is a small and ancient family of ferns in the order Osmundales, within the class Polypodiopsida. The family includes four living genera: Osmunda, Osmundastrum, Leptopteris, and Todea. In some classifications Osmundastrum is treated as a subgenus of Osmunda; others maintain it as a separate genus. Osmundaceae are among the most primitive extant ferns, retaining features characteristic of eusporangiate ferns.
