Oshiage

Oshiage is a district in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, Japan. Situated on the eastern edge of central Tokyo, it lies along the Sumida River and serves as a transportation and commercial hub linking eastern Tokyo with the rest of the metropolis.

The district is dominated by Tokyo Skytree, a broadcasting and observation tower completed in 2012. At 634 meters, it is among the tallest free-standing structures in the world. The Skytree forms the centerpiece of Tokyo Skytree Town, a multi-use complex that includes an aquarium, a planetarium, a large shopping mall, and offices.

Oshiage Station is a major interchange serving multiple rail lines: Keisei Electric Railway's Oshiage Line and Main Line; the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line; and the Toei Subway Asakusa Line. The station connects directly to the Skytree complex, facilitating access for commuters and visitors.

The area developed historically as a river port and market in the Edo period; redevelopment since the late 20th century, culminating in the Skytree project, has reshaped Oshiage into a modern urban district while retaining its role as a gateway to eastern Tokyo.
