Organikë

Organikë is an Albanian term meaning "organic" and is used to describe substances, processes, and products associated with living matter or with carbon-containing chemistry. In everyday language it is applied to fields such as kimia organike (organic chemistry) and prodhime organike (organic products). The term covers two main senses: scientific concepts and agriculture/food production.

In science, kimia organike is the branch of chemistry that studies carbon-containing compounds, including hydrocarbons, carbohydrates, proteins, and nucleic acids. These compounds form the basis of all known life and underpin many industrial materials. Organikë in this sense is contrasted with kimia anorganike (inorganic chemistry).

In agriculture and food, prodhime organike are produced under systems that aim to minimize synthetic inputs, avoid genetically modified organisms, and emphasize ecological balance. Organic farming typically restricts synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, uses organic-approved inputs, and emphasizes soil health and biodiversity. Products may require certification and labeling to confirm compliance with regional organic standards.

Certification and regulation vary by country. In the European Union and many other regions, organic labeling is governed by standards and third-party certifiers. In Albania and neighboring regions, national regulations align with international or EU-inspired frameworks to ensure traceability and consumer confidence.

Etymology: organikë derives from Latin organicus via European languages, reflecting its link to organs of living matter and carbon-containing compounds. The term is widely used in science, agriculture, and commerce to denote products or processes that aim to be natural, low-impact, and sustainability-focused.
