Ordinieren
"Ordinieren" is a German verb that translates to "to order" or "to command" in English. It is commonly used in both formal and informal contexts. In a restaurant setting, "ordinieren" refers to the act of placing an order with a waiter or waitress. The customer will say "Ich möchte ordinieren" (I would like to order), and the waiter will respond with "Was darf es sein?" (What would you like to drink/eat?), to which the customer will reply with their desired items. The waiter will then write down the order on a notepad, which is known as the "Bestellzettel" (order ticket). Once the order is taken, the waiter will confirm it with the customer, typically by saying "Das ist Ihr Bestellzettel" (That is your order ticket). The term "ordinieren" can also be used in a broader sense to mean giving orders or commands, such as in a military or organizational context. However, in these cases, it is often used in a more formal or authoritative manner.
