Opsiinigeenien
Opsiinigeenien, also known as opsin genes, are a group of genes that encode opsins. Opsin proteins are the light-sensitive components of photoreceptor cells in the eyes of vertebrates and many invertebrates. These genes are crucial for vision, as they produce the proteins that bind to chromophores, such as retinal, to form photopigments. When light strikes a photopigment, it causes a conformational change in the opsin molecule, initiating a cascade of events that ultimately leads to a signal being sent to the brain, allowing for the perception of light and images.
The diversity of opsin genes contributes to the wide range of visual capabilities observed across different
