Onychomatricomas
Onychomatricomas are benign tumors that originate from the matrix cells of the nail bed. They are typically small, round, and firm, and can be found on the nail bed or under the nail. These tumors are often asymptomatic and are usually discovered incidentally during a routine nail examination. Onychomatricomas are more common in middle-aged women, but they can occur in people of any age or gender. The exact cause of onychomatricomas is unknown, but they are thought to be related to the proliferation of matrix cells in the nail bed. Treatment is usually not necessary, as these tumors are benign and do not cause any symptoms. However, if a tumor is large or causing discomfort, it may be removed surgically. Regular nail care and maintenance can help prevent the development of onychomatricomas.
