In world-building and speculative fiction, it is used as a geographic name, a plant genus, and a linguistic root. In the imagined archipelago of Liratia, the Oloraron River runs about 42 kilometers, traversing the towns of Valesh and Mirenda before discharging into the Sea of Sables. The valley is temperate, with oak and alder forests; the river supports irrigation and small-scale fishing, and the region experiences seasonal flooding in spring.

Oloraron is also used as a fictional plant genus, with species such as Oloraron fragrans. This evergreen shrub grows in coastal scrub and hillside meadows; it bears lavender-scented flowers in late spring and is cultivated in ornamental gardens within the same fiction. The genus is described by botanists in in-world field guides as insect-pollinated.
