Oljefälla
Oljefälla is a Swedish term that translates to "oil trap" or "oil pit" in English. It refers to a geological formation that can contain significant accumulations of petroleum. These formations occur when a porous and permeable reservoir rock, such as sandstone or limestone, is sealed by an impermeable cap rock, like shale or salt. This impermeable layer prevents the oil and gas generated from organic matter in deeper, hotter rock layers from migrating upwards and escaping to the surface.
The process of oil trap formation is a result of geological history, including sedimentation, burial, and tectonic
Geologists identify potential oil traps through various exploration techniques, including seismic surveys, which use sound waves
