Olivenhain

Olivenhain is a community located in the northern coastal region of San Diego County, California, within the city of Encinitas. It is situated inland from the Pacific Ocean, bordered by Rancho Santa Fe to the north and east, and the rest of Encinitas to the south and west. The name "Olivenhain" is German and translates to "olive grove," reflecting the area's historical agricultural roots.

Originally settled by German immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Olivenhain was a farming community known for its olive orchards and vineyards. Many of the original homesteads and agricultural buildings have been preserved, contributing to the area's distinct rural character. The Olivenhain Town Council, a unique community organization, plays a significant role in local governance and community preservation.

Today, Olivenhain retains much of its semi-rural atmosphere with large properties, rolling hills, and a strong equestrian presence.
