Oldalsócsatornás

Oldalsócsatornás, a Hungarian term, translates literally to "side channel" or "sideways channel." In a technical context, it refers to a type of pump, specifically a side channel pump. These pumps are characterized by their ability to handle fluids with entrained gases or vapors, which can be problematic for conventional centrifugal pumps. The design of a side channel pump features a volute casing with a series of radial passages, or channels, located on the side of the impeller. The fluid enters the impeller eye and is propelled outwards through these side channels. As the fluid moves through these channels, it interacts with the impeller vanes, gaining energy. The key advantage lies in the fact that any gas or vapor bubbles present in the fluid tend to accumulate in these side channels, rather than being compressed and potentially causing cavitation or vapor locking as they might in a standard centrifugal pump. This makes side channel pumps suitable for applications involving volatile liquids, condensate removal, or situations where a completely gas-free fluid cannot be guaranteed. They are often used in chemical processing, oil and gas industries, and for general fluid transfer where entrained gases are a concern.
