Oktavallas
Oktavallas is a term used in music theory, particularly in discussions of harmony and voice leading. It refers to the interval of an octave, which is the distance between two notes where one has twice the frequency of the other. In a four-part vocal texture, the term "oktavallas" specifically denotes a situation where the bass voice and the soprano voice are moving in octaves. This movement can occur as a direct progression, where both voices jump to notes that are an octave apart, or as a contrary motion, where the bass voice moves upwards and the soprano voice moves downwards (or vice versa) to land on notes an octave apart.
The concept of oktavallas is often discussed in the context of avoiding parallel octaves. Parallel octaves
