Okklúzia

Okklúzia is a term used in various fields to describe a blockage or obstruction. In medicine, it refers to the closing off of a blood vessel, such as by a blood clot (thrombosis) or an embolus, which can lead to reduced blood flow or a complete stop of circulation to an organ or tissue. This can have serious consequences depending on the location and size of the occlusion. For example, a coronary artery occlusion can cause a heart attack, while a cerebral artery occlusion can lead to a stroke.

In dentistry, occlusion refers to the way the upper and lower teeth come together when the mouth is closed. An abnormal occlusion, or malocclusion, can cause problems with chewing, speaking, and jaw joint function, and may require orthodontic treatment.

The term occlude can also be used more generally to describe anything that blocks or seals off an opening. This might include the occlusion of a pipe by debris or the occlusion of a lens by a smudged surface. The specific meaning of okklúzia is therefore dependent on the context in which it is used.
