Odivelas

Odivelas is a municipality in the Lisbon District of Portugal, part of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. It is situated to the northwest of central Lisbon and borders the municipalities of Amadora, Loures, Sintra, and Lisbon. The municipality covers a primarily urbanized area and is divided into several civil parishes, with the town of Odivelas serving as the municipal seat.

Historically, the area had agricultural roots and grew as Lisbon expanded, becoming a suburban residential center in the 20th century. Since then it has developed infrastructure and services to accommodate a growing population, while preserving elements of its rural heritage in some areas.

Economy is primarily service-oriented, with commerce, public administration, education, and health services forming the backbone. The municipality hosts local markets, shopping facilities, and small-scale light industry.
