Odamlarning

Odamlarning is a grammatical form in Uzbek that marks possession or association with the noun odamlar (people). It is formed by taking the base word odam (person), adding the plural suffix -lar to create odamlar (people), and then attaching the genitive/possessive suffix -ning to yield odamlarning. The result is a genitive construction meaning “of the people” or “the people’s,” and it is used to modify another noun in a noun phrase.

Usage of odamlarning is common in formal and written Uzbek. It appears before a following noun to indicate possession by the people, for example: odamlarning fikrlari (the people's opinions), odamlarning hayoti (the life of the people), or odamlarning siyosati (the people's policy). In these phrases, odamlarning functions as the possessor, while the following noun carries its own referent and any additional modifiers.

Morphology and syntax notes: Uzbek noun phrases typically place the possessor phrase before the possessed noun. The form odamlarning serves as the owner, and the second noun can bear its own possessive or plural endings depending on the intended meaning. The construction is widely used in journalism, political discourse, sociology, and other contexts discussing groups defined as “the people.”
