Oculists
Oculists are medical doctors who specialize in the care of the eyes and the visual system. They are trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of eye conditions, from common refractive errors like myopia and hyperopia to more complex diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration. Oculists perform comprehensive eye examinations, prescribe corrective lenses, and conduct eye surgery. Their expertise extends to understanding the intricate anatomy and physiology of the eye, as well as the neurological pathways involved in vision.
The training to become an oculist involves completing medical school, followed by a residency program in ophthalmology.
