Obracam

Obracam is the first-person singular present tense form of the Polish verb obracać, which means to turn, rotate, or twist. As a common imperfective verb, it is used for ongoing, repeated, or habitual actions, rather than completed ones.

In everyday usage, obracam describes turning physical objects or changing orientation. Examples include Obracam klucz w zamku (I turn the key in the lock) and Obracam stronę papieru (I turn over the page). The verb can also describe turning oneself, as in Obracam się w prawo (I turn around to the right) or Otwieram, a moment later obracam się, aby spojrzeć za siebie (I open, then I turn to look behind me).

Beyond literal turning, obracać has figurative senses. It can mean to turn one’s attention or focus to something, as in Obracam uwagę na szczegóły (I turn my attention to the details). It can also appear in reflexive forms to describe turning around or changing one’s stance or opinion over time.

Grammatical notes: obracać is imperfective, so the present-tense forms are: ja obracam, ty obracasz, on/ona/ono obraca, my obracamy, wy obracacie, oni obracają. The related perfective verb obrócić expresses a completed rotation or a single, momentary turning, with future forms such as obrócę, obrócisz, obróci, etc. Past tense forms distinguish gender and number (obracałem/obracałam, obracaliśmy, obracaliście, obracali).
