OAuthconform

OAuthconform is a proposed extension to the OAuth 2.0 authorization framework. Its primary goal is to enhance the security and usability of OAuth 2.0 by introducing a standardized mechanism for client applications to declare their intended use of access tokens. Currently, OAuth 2.0 clients receive access tokens but have limited explicit ways to communicate to the authorization server how they intend to utilize these tokens. This can lead to potential security vulnerabilities if a client misuses or over-privileges an access token.

OAuthconform aims to address this by allowing clients to specify the scope of their token requests in a more granular and auditable manner. This specification outlines how clients can include additional parameters in their authorization requests that define the specific audience, intended resource, and permissible actions associated with the requested access token. The authorization server can then validate these declarations against its policies and issue tokens that are precisely tailored to the client's declared needs.

By formalizing this declaration process, OAuthconform seeks to improve the principle of least privilege within OAuth 2.0 deployments. It also offers benefits for auditing and incident response, as the intended use of tokens would be explicitly recorded. While still a proposal, OAuthconform represents an effort to evolve OAuth 2.0 into a more robust and secure protocol for delegated authorization in modern applications.
