NõmmeMustamäe

NõmmeMustamäe is a district in the southwestern part of Tallinn, Estonia. It was formed in 1993 by merging the former Nõmme and Mustamäe districts. The district is known for its green spaces, particularly Nõmme Forest and Mustamäe Forest, which are popular recreational areas for residents. The area also boasts a significant number of educational institutions, including Tallinn University of Technology and several schools.

Historically, Nõmme developed as a summer resort town in the early 20th century, characterized by its wooden villas and sandy soil. Mustamäe, in contrast, is a more modern district, largely developed during the Soviet era with a focus on mass housing. The merger aimed to create a more cohesive administrative unit, combining the historical charm of Nõmme with the urban infrastructure of Mustamäe.

The district is diverse, featuring a mix of residential areas, from single-family homes in Nõmme to apartment blocks in Mustamäe. It is well-connected by public transport, with tram and bus lines serving the area. Key landmarks include the Nõmme Market, the Estonian Open Air Museum located on the border of Nõmme, and the Mustamäe ski slope.
