Nënsektorët are subdivisions of broader sectors used in economic and organizational classifications to describe more specific activities within a wider field. They provide a finer-grained view of how an economy or an organization is organized, enabling analysis and policy-making to focus on particular activities rather than on broad categories alone. The concept is widely used in national accounts, industry statistics, and sectoral planning to capture variations in output, employment, and productivity across more narrowly defined activities.

In practice, nënsektorët are formalized through international classification systems such as the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) and national adaptations. These frameworks group activities into sectors (for example, industry, services, agriculture) and further split them into subsectors to reflect differing characteristics, inputs, technologies, and market dynamics. For example, within manufacturing sub-sectors might include food products, textiles, and chemicals; within services, sub-sectors could cover wholesale and retail trade, transportation, or information and communication.

Applications of nënsektorët include measuring contributions to gross domestic product, employment, and investment by more precise activity, informing policy decisions, and guiding resource allocation. They also support sectoral analysis, supply chain mapping, and regional planning by revealing which specific activities drive growth or require regulation.

Challenges in using nënsektorët involve ensuring consistent definitions across time and institutions, maintaining comparable data as classifications evolve, and adapting to new activities arising from technological change and economic transformation. Despite these challenges, they remain a central tool for detailed economic analysis and strategic planning.
