Næsestrukturen

Næsestrukturen refers to the anatomical features of the nose and its internal structures. This encompasses both the external nose, which is visible from the outside, and the internal nasal cavity. The external nose is composed of bone and cartilage, forming its characteristic shape. The nasal cavity, located within the skull, is divided by the nasal septum into two passages.

The internal nasal cavity is lined with a mucous membrane. This membrane contains numerous blood vessels and cilia, which are tiny hair-like structures. The primary functions of the nasal structures include filtering, warming, and humidifying inhaled air before it reaches the lungs. The cilia and mucus trap foreign particles such as dust, pollen, and pathogens, preventing them from entering the respiratory system. The rich blood supply within the nasal lining helps to warm the incoming air to body temperature.

Furthermore, the nasal structures play a crucial role in the sense of smell. Olfactory receptors located in the upper part of the nasal cavity detect airborne odor molecules, transmitting these signals to the brain for interpretation. The nasal cavity also contributes to resonance in speech and vocalization. Inflammation or structural abnormalities of the næsestrukturen can impact breathing, sense of smell, and susceptibility to infections.
