Näytteenantimet refer to the enantiomeric forms present in a sample. In stereochemistry, many organic compounds exist as two or more non-superimposable mirror images. When such compounds are isolated from natural sources or produced synthetically, the sample may contain one or both enantiomers. The relative amounts of the enantiomers are described by the enantiomeric excess (ee) and the racemic ratio. Determining the enantiomeric composition is important because enantiomers can differ in biological activity, pharmacokinetics, and environmental fate.

Analytical methods include chromatographic techniques with chiral stationary phases (for example HPLC or GC using polysaccharide derivatives), capillary electrophoresis with chiral selectors, and spectroscopic methods like polarimetry and circular dichroism (CD). In some cases, nuclear magnetic resonance with chiral shift reagents can help assign configurations.

Handling: sample integrity must be preserved to avoid enantiomerization; temperature, pH, and solvents can influence enantiomeric balance. In regulatory settings, enantiomeric purity may be required for pharmaceuticals, with impurity thresholds specified.

Applications: drug development and quality control, forensic chemistry, environmental monitoring, and food safety.

Limitation: Not all compounds exhibit stable enantiomerism under analysis; some racemize easily.
