Nyköping

Nyköping is a locality and the seat of Nyköping Municipality in Södermanland County, Sweden. It lies on the Baltic coast at the mouth of the Nyköpingsån river and is the administrative center of the municipality as well as the historic province of Södermanland.

It serves as a regional service and light commercial center for central Södermanland, with sectors including public administration, education, commerce, and logistics. The surrounding countryside remains agricultural, with forestry and small-scale industry linked to the town's economy.

The area has been inhabited since medieval times, and Nyköping developed as a market town (köping) with harbor facilities along the river. The town preserves a historic core with older architecture, and nearby landmarks reflect its maritime and administrative history.
