Nyainqêntanglha

Nyainqêntanglha, also spelled Nyenchen Tanglha, is a prominent mountain massif located in the central region of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. It is considered the most sacred mountain in Tibet and is a significant deity in Tibetan Buddhism. The massif forms part of the Nyainqêntanglha mountain range, which extends across central Tibet.

The highest peak in the Nyainqêntanglha massif reaches an elevation of 7,162 meters (23,497 feet). The mountain is characterized by its rugged terrain, glaciers, and alpine lakes. The area surrounding Nyainqêntanglha is sparsely populated, with nomadic herders and small villages forming the main human presence. The landscape is often described as stark and beautiful, with dramatic rock formations and sweeping valleys.

In Tibetan mythology and religion, Nyainqêntanglha is revered as a powerful protector deity. He is often depicted as a wrathful deity, but also as a benevolent guardian of the Tibetan people and their spiritual traditions. Pilgrims traditionally undertake circumambulations of the sacred mountain, known as kora, as an act of devotion and merit-making. The journey is arduous, often taking several weeks to complete.
