Nyálkahártyái

Nyálkahártyái is a Hungarian term referring to mucous membranes. Mucous membranes are soft, moist tissues that line many internal cavities and passages of the body, including the respiratory tract, digestive tract, urinary tract, and reproductive tract. They are also found on the inner surfaces of the eyelids and in the mouth.

The primary function of mucous membranes is to produce and secrete mucus, a viscous fluid that lubricates and protects these surfaces. Mucus traps foreign particles, such as dust and pathogens, preventing them from entering deeper into the body. It also contains antimicrobial substances that help fight off infections.

The appearance and specific functions of mucous membranes can vary depending on their location. For instance, the mucous membranes of the digestive system play a crucial role in absorption of nutrients, while those in the respiratory system are involved in gas exchange and filtering inhaled air. The conjunctiva, the mucous membrane lining the eyelids and covering the white part of the eye, helps keep the eye moist and protected.

Inflammation of mucous membranes is known as mucositis. This condition can be caused by various factors, including infections, allergies, autoimmune diseases, and treatments like chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Symptoms of mucositis can include pain, redness, swelling, and the formation of sores. Maintaining good hygiene and proper hydration are important for the health of mucous membranes.
